Side hustling is for everyone.

It’s doesn’t matter if you are a 9–5 worker, unemployed, freelancer, single mother, anyone — including an undergraduate student. As long you are willing to earn more, you can start a side hustle, and no one can prohibit you!

I started my first side hustle a long time ago — when I was a high school student (FYI, now I’m a corporate slave, lol). At that time, I was reselling my senior clothing line’s product. I got $10–$15 for every product I sold.

Not a big bucks — I know, but it was a significant number for me as an Indo teenager. I can buy my first BlackBerry Gemini (the price was $120) using my own money. And I am proud of it!

Then when I was an undergraduate student, it was hard to find some helpful articles about hustling. That side hustle online guru said seems not to match my undergrad’s life.

Maybe as an undergrad student today, you face the same issue as mine. So I decided to write this post to help you.

Here are five side hustles for undergraduate students — that might be suitable for you:

Video Editor

In this content creation era, video editors have become in high demand. As we all know, many YouTubers are born. They upload vlogs, funny sketches videos, cooking videos, tutorial videos, and more.

Because of that, they will need a video editing service. Why? Because the Youtuber can save their time to think about anything else. Such as; planning their content, working on the business side, marketing their content, and many more.

Being a video editor seems suitable for undergrad student life. You can edit your client’s video after your class end. Or maybe after your study hours. You can spend 3–4 hours daily on video editing.

The important thing is most video editing jobs don’t require any degree!

You can make $50–$100 per video editing project.

I wrote an e-book about making money from a video editing hobby. I listed it on Gumroad. You can download it for FREE! Click this link.

By the way, if you want to appreciate my work, tips are welcome :)

E-book Designer

Not every content writer can design their e-book.

It’s because they don’t have time to do it. Primarily they only focused on writing the content, but sometimes they forgot about the design. Even though, great e-book design will help them to generate a sale!

This is a chance for you to step in!

“Yeah, that’s a good idea. But, I don’t have design skills. I can’t operate Adobe Illustrator!” — you might be thinking like this right now.

Say thank you to Canva!

If you don’t know about it, let’s google it first! But in general, Canva is a problem solver for you who don’t have any design skills. It only requires drag & drops skill (I believe all of you can do this, lol) and a good taste in design.

You can market this service to Fiver or Upwork. Or maybe, you can directly approach your favorite content writer! With some hard work and consistency, I believe you will get your first client within a short time.

You can easily make $30-$50 per design. Let’s do that now!

Presentation Designer

I have a colleague who is very badass at presenting something — talking in front of people, but terrible at designing his presentation file.

It’s like a kindergarten drawing!

Bloody hell-o.

Maybe you also have a colleague like mine?

Again, this is a chance for you to start side hustling in this area.

Canva is your best friend in the designing area — I believe many “Serious Designer” will be mad at me (that’s fine, I don’t care, haha). You can choose a template to start and adjust it until you achieve your client’s needs.

You can make around $20–$40 per design.

Same as above, you can list your service on Fiver or Upwork. Or maybe, your lecture needs your assistance and becomes your first client? It is possible!

Social Media Manager

So many small business owners need help managing their social media. Sometimes, they only focus on operational business and forget how vital online presence is.

You can step in, side hustling on this area. Again, most social media jobs don’t require any degree! You only need the knowledge of managing social media and the time to do it consistently.

It could be their Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and many social media platforms!

From Indeed.com, the Social Media Manager is responsible for taking some tasks, such as:

  • Create and maintain the company’s brand using a social media marketing tool.
  • Developing marketing campaign with the Marketing team.
  • Interacting with customers and stakeholders using that social media account.
  • Researching social media trends
  • And more.

You can set your service to an hourly rate. Or maybe they hire and pay you monthly? This side hustle can fat-in your pocket, lol.

Content Writer

Do you love writing content in your free time after study hours?

This side hustling might be the most suitable for you.

You can make money through writing online on this platform (read: Medium). Or you can make money if you are good to arrange people to do something with your words (read: copywriting). Or you can make money by describing the product well with your words (read: product description).

Anything makes you comfortable!

You can make money starting from $30-$xxxx on this content writing. A badass client can give you $(n)k with only your four copywriting items. Unbelievable!

Look around you. Find some businesses from your town that need help. Maybe they need to enhance their landing page words. Or perhaps they need to improve the way they write social media captions. You can step in to provide your service.

You can also list your service on Fiver or Upwork — these two are our best friends when it comes to side hustling.

Final thought

Now it’s time for you to choose!

Pick one area, and let’s start hustling.

Everyone can make money online in this internet era, including you as an undergrad student. But, please keep in mind: you need to manage your time well, so your side hustle doesn’t affect your study.

Remember: You want to make money while getting your degree. Not drop out while making money.
